He delivers a unique experience blending thirteen artistic attributes—from jazz trumpet and scatting to storytelling, magic, and theatre. With over 2,000 North American performances, he carries a legacy tied to the pioneers of early jazz. A New Orleans native, Happy Lance is the son of Wendell Brunious, musical director at Preservation Hall, and grandson of Juilliard graduate John “Pickey” Brunious, who arranged for early jazz icons. His ancestry traces back to late great-great-uncle Willie Santiago, a contemporary of Buddy Bolden and one of the first banjo players ever recorded.
